How the 5% works

There's nothing to pay up front and no monthly bill. The fee is worked out on each payment, at the moment the couple pays.

  1. A couple pays you

    First your booking fee, once you approve their request. Then the remaining balance before the wedding, plus any extras they accept. Every payment goes through Stripe's secure checkout.

  2. NearlyWeds keeps 5%

    5% of that payment is NearlyWeds' fee. It's taken automatically as the couple pays, so there's no bill to pay later and nothing to chase.

  3. The rest goes to your Stripe account

    Stripe's own processing fee comes out of your Stripe balance separately. Stripe then pays your money out to your bank on your Stripe payout schedule.

  4. You get a record of every fee

    NearlyWeds issues you an invoice for its fee each time a couple pays you. If a refund returns part of a fee, you get a credit note for it.

A $5,000 booking, start to finish

Say a couple books a $5,000 package with a business whose booking fee is 20%. The couple pays in two parts, and NearlyWeds' 5% is worked out on each one as it's paid.

Each business sets its own booking fee, how long couples have to pay it, when the balance is due and its cancellation policy. Start from a preset during onboarding, or tap Customise and set your own. However you split the payments, NearlyWeds' fee is 5% of what couples pay.

You can change your terms at any time. Each booking keeps the cancellation policy it was requested under, so a later change doesn't affect bookings you already have.

Refunds

When money goes back, so does our fee

Plans change. When a refund is made through NearlyWeds, NearlyWeds' fee on the refunded amount goes back to the business.

  • The fee is returned in proportion

    When a refund is made through NearlyWeds, NearlyWeds' fee on the refunded amount is returned to the business. Refund half of a payment and half of the fee on it comes back.

  • When a couple cancels, the policy decides

    The business's cancellation policy, locked in when the request was sent, decides what the couple gets back. Refund percentages apply to what's been paid so far, and the couple sees their refund before they confirm.

  • If a business cancels, the couple gets everything back

    Whatever the policy says, the couple is refunded everything they've paid.

  • Refunds come from the business's Stripe balance

    They go back to the couple's original card and usually arrive within 5 to 10 business days.

  • A credit note for the fee returned

    NearlyWeds issues the business an invoice for its fee each time a couple pays. When a refund returns part of that fee, the business also gets a credit note for the amount returned.

Final numbers come in lower

A per-guest booking is paid in full at $5,000. The couple's final guest numbers bring the price down to $4,600, and the business accepts them.

Do couples pay anything to use NearlyWeds?

No. Browsing, saving favourites, chatting with businesses, sending booking requests and using your planning checklist are all free. When you book, you pay the business its own price through NearlyWeds, and NearlyWeds adds nothing on top.

Is the booking fee a NearlyWeds fee?

No. The booking fee is the first part of the business's price, paid once they approve your request to secure your date. Each business sets its own percentage, and it's part of the total, not on top of it. The rest is the remaining balance, due a set number of days before the wedding.

Do I need an account to see prices?

No. You can browse every approved venue and vendor and open any listing without an account, including its packages and prices, reviews, terms and cancellation policy. You only need a free account to message a business, save favourites, see availability or request a booking.

What does it cost to list my business?

Nothing. Signing up, onboarding, our team's approval check and your listing are free, and there's no subscription. NearlyWeds' fee is 5% of each payment a couple makes to you through NearlyWeds, so if no couple pays you, you pay nothing.

What exactly is the 5% charged on?

Every payment a couple makes to you through NearlyWeds: the booking fee, the remaining balance and any extras they accept. On a $5,000 booking with a 20% booking fee, that's $50 on the $1,000 booking fee and $200 on the $4,000 balance. Messages and booking requests are never charged.

Will I get a bill from NearlyWeds?

No. The fee is taken automatically as each payment is made, and the rest goes to your Stripe account. You get an invoice for the fee each time a couple pays you, listed under Invoices on your Earnings page, plus a fee statement you can download for any period.

Who pays Stripe's processing fee?

The business. Stripe charges its own processing fee on each payment, and it comes out of your Stripe balance separately from NearlyWeds' fee. The figures in NearlyWeds are before Stripe's fee; your Stripe dashboard shows the exact payout amounts.

When do I receive my money?

Couples pay you through Stripe, so you need to connect a Stripe account first. After NearlyWeds' fee, the money goes to your Stripe account, and Stripe pays it out to your bank on your Stripe payout schedule. Open Stripe dashboard in the app shows your balance and payouts.

What happens to the fee when a couple gets a refund?

When a refund is made through NearlyWeds, NearlyWeds' fee on the refunded amount is returned to you in proportion, and you get a credit note for it. Refunds come out of your Stripe balance and follow the cancellation policy on the booking. If you cancel a booking yourself, the couple is refunded everything they've paid.

Can I see the fee before I set my prices?

Yes. When you enter a package price, the hint shows NearlyWeds' fee and roughly what you'll receive, before Stripe fees. After that, every booking, the Payments page and your Earnings show the fee and your net amount.

Why take payments through NearlyWeds instead of directly?

Payments through NearlyWeds keep everything on the booking: your cancellation policy and refunds apply, couples get a receipt for each payment, reminders go out before each payment is due, and you keep the full booking and payment history. Taking payment outside NearlyWeds means the couple loses the protection of your cancellation policy and refunds, and you lose that history.

Is there a contract or minimum term?

No. There's no lock-in. You can pause your listing whenever you like and publish it again when you're ready, and you can delete your account yourself once you have no upcoming bookings or pending payments.
