12 questions

What is NearlyWeds?

NearlyWeds brings Australian wedding venues and vendors together in one place, so you can find, chat with, book and pay the businesses for your day without juggling emails and spreadsheets.

It's for weddings in Australia, and all prices are in Australian dollars. Every business is checked by our team before couples can find it, and a planning checklist built around your date keeps the rest on track.

Is NearlyWeds free for couples?

Yes. NearlyWeds doesn't charge couples anything. Browsing, saving favourites, chatting with businesses, sending booking requests and using your planning checklist are all free.

When you book, you pay the business's own prices through NearlyWeds, with nothing added on top. The business pays NearlyWeds' fee out of what it receives. See how pricing works.

Can I look around without an account?

Yes. Open Browse to search, filter and sort every approved venue and vendor, including on the map. Open any listing to see its photos, packages and prices, reviews, venue details, location, terms and cancellation policy.

You'll need a free account to:

  • save favourites
  • message a business or send a booking request
  • see a business's phone, email and availability calendar
  • use the Available on a date and Near my wedding filters

Once you've signed up (and, for a new account, set up your wedding), you're brought straight back to the page you were on.

How do I know a business is genuine?

Every venue and vendor is checked by the NearlyWeds team before it appears in Browse. We review each listing's details, photos and packages, the area a vendor covers or the number of guests a venue can hold, and its ABN and payment setup. If an approved business later changes its name or category, its listing comes back to us and stays hidden until we've checked it again.

A few more things help you choose with confidence:

  • Reviews can only be left by couples who booked that business and paid in full through NearlyWeds, after the wedding.
  • Celebrants show a Registered marriage celebrant badge once we've checked them against the Attorney-General's Department register. A celebrant marked Symbolic ceremonies only (not legally binding) can run your ceremony but can't legally marry you.
  • Venues answer the same set of questions about pets, children, wheelchair access, wet weather options, accommodation and more, so you can compare them fairly.

If something on a listing doesn't look right, tap Report this business at the bottom of it. Reports go to the NearlyWeds team.

How do I talk to a business?

Open the business's listing and tap Message in the Contact section, or the chat button next to Request booking. You can message any business, whether or not you've booked them, and every conversation stays together in Chat.

Quick replies such as "Is our date free?" and "Ask for a quote" help you get started, and you can send photos, like inspiration or a floor plan, that only you and the business can see. Once you're signed in, a listing also shows the business's phone and email.

Include your date, guest numbers and anything special in your first message, so the business can reply with the details up front.

Can I see if a business is free on our wedding date?

Yes, once you're signed in. Each listing has an Availability calendar showing free and busy dates, and you can tap a date under Pick your date to use it in your request.

In Browse, the Available on my wedding date filter shows only the businesses that are free that day. Tapping Your date at the top of Browse does the same in one step. Dates a business has marked as busy can't be chosen in a booking request.

How do I book a venue or vendor?
  1. On the listing, tap Request booking, or Request this package on a package.
  2. Check the Event date and Guest count, which are filled in from your wedding details.
  3. Choose a Package, or Ask for a quote if you'd like the business to price it for you.
  4. Add any notes, check the estimate, then tap Send booking request.

Sending a request costs nothing and doesn't hold the date yet. The business can approve it, decline it or propose changes. Once it's approved, you pay the booking fee to secure your date.

What do the booking statuses mean?
  • Awaiting approval: you've sent the request and the business hasn't responded yet.
  • Approved: the business said yes. Pay the booking fee before the deadline to secure your date.
  • Changes proposed: the business has suggested a new price or date for you to review.
  • Booking fee paid: your date is secured. The remaining balance is due before the wedding.
  • Paid in full: nothing more to pay, unless you accept extra items later.
  • Completed: the wedding has passed.
  • Declined or Cancelled: the booking is closed.

Each booking also shows a Next step, so you can see what's waiting on you.

What if a business wants to change the price or date?

The business can propose changes, for example a custom quote once you've talked through the details, or a new date. Your booking then shows Changes proposed, with the new total and the business's note on what changed. If you're happy, tap Accept changes. If you're not sure, message them to talk it through first.

A business can also add an extra item, such as an extra hour of photography. It's only added to your booking once you accept it. Every proposed change is kept in the booking's Change history.

Can we change our guest numbers after booking?

Some businesses, especially venues and caterers, ask for your final guest numbers a set number of days before the wedding. When they do, your booking shows a Final numbers card with the date they're due, and you tap Confirm final numbers to send them.

If your package is priced per guest, the price is worked out again when the business accepts your numbers. If the new price is lower than what you've already paid, the difference is refunded to your original payment method. If it's higher, your Balance due goes up. The card's History lists every change, with the guest numbers and price before and after.

Numbers can be sent once the booking is Approved, up to the day before the wedding, and we remind you 7 days and 1 day before they're due. If the business doesn't ask for final numbers, message them to talk the change through.

What's in the planning checklist?

When you set up your wedding, your Checklist starts with around 45 tasks, from setting a budget and booking vendors to sending thank-you cards after the day. Due dates are counted back from your wedding date, and tasks for a service are only added if you said you're looking for it. You can edit, reschedule or delete any task, and add your own. No date yet? Tap We haven't set a date yet and your checklist stays undated until you add one.

It also covers the legal paperwork for marrying in Australia, including your Notice of Intended Marriage, which must reach your celebrant at least one month (and no more than 18 months) before the wedding.

Can we trust the reviews?

Reviews on NearlyWeds can only be left by couples who booked the business and paid in full through NearlyWeds, and only after the wedding date. The reviewer's name is shown with each review, and businesses can reply publicly.

If a review looks fake or inappropriate, tap Report review under it. Our team looks into every report, and reviews that break the rules may be hidden.

Listing your business

What it costs, getting approved, getting paid and the parts of each booking you control.

10 questions

What does it cost to list my business?

Nothing. There's no listing fee and no subscription. NearlyWeds' fee is 5% of each payment a couple makes to you through NearlyWeds, taken automatically when they pay. The rest goes to your Stripe account.

Stripe also charges its own card processing fee, which comes out of your Stripe balance. When you set a package price, the app shows roughly what you'll receive after NearlyWeds' fee, so you can price with confidence. See a worked example.

Which businesses can list on NearlyWeds?

Australian wedding venues and vendors. When you sign up you choose Vendor (you provide a service and set how far you'll travel) or Venue (you host weddings and set your guest capacity).

Vendors choose a main category, plus up to 2 more under Also offers. The vendor categories are:

  • Wedding planner & coordinator
  • Photographer
  • Videographer
  • Celebrant
  • Caterer
  • Cakes
  • Mobile bar & drinks
  • Florist
  • Styling & Hire
  • Marquee & tent hire
  • Cultural & religious decor
  • Lighting & AV
  • Music & DJ
  • Bands & musicians
  • MC & host
  • Entertainment & performers
  • Photo booth
  • Hair & Makeup
  • Henna & mehndi
  • Bridal & formal wear
  • Menswear & suits
  • Rings & jewellery
  • Stationery & invitations
  • Transport
  • Interpreters & Auslan
How do I sign up?
  1. Choose Create an account and, under I am a, tap Vendor or Venue.
  2. Enter your email and a password, then open the confirmation link we email you.
  3. Work through onboarding: your business details (and, for venues, the venue details questions), contact and location, your booking and payment terms, then photos and your first package.
  4. Tap Submit for review.

Your progress is saved as you go, so you can stop and pick up where you left off. List your business.

What happens after I submit my listing?

Our team reviews every new listing before it goes live. You'll see three stages, Submitted, In review and Live, and we email you as soon as a decision is made. You can keep editing your profile while you wait.

Before we can approve a listing, it needs at least 3 photos, at least one active package, a service radius (vendors) or a maximum guest capacity (venues), and for venues, every venue details question answered. Celebrants also need their registration checked, unless they only perform symbolic ceremonies. A logo, a valid ABN and a connected Stripe account are strongly recommended.

Adding your logo, three photos and a package during onboarding speeds up approval. If we need something changed, we'll email you, and a Changes requested card in the app shows our reason. Make the changes, then tap Resubmit for review.

How do I get paid?

Through Stripe. You connect a Stripe account from the Get paid card in the app, and Stripe takes you through your business and personal details, identity verification and the bank account for your payouts.

Couples pay through Stripe's secure checkout. NearlyWeds keeps its 5% fee and the rest goes to your Stripe account, which pays out to your bank on your Stripe payout schedule. NearlyWeds never sees your bank or identity details. Couples can't pay you until Stripe is connected.

Can I set my own booking fee and payment timing?

Yes. In onboarding you start from a preset, and you can change any of it later:

  • Flexible: 10% booking fee, 96 hours to pay it, balance due 14 days before the wedding.
  • Standard: 20% booking fee, 72 hours to pay it, balance due 30 days before.
  • Strict: 30% booking fee, 48 hours to pay it, balance due 45 days before.

Or tap Customise to set your own. You can also set a minimum notice (how many days ahead couples need to book; anyone asking for a sooner date sees a warning first) and a due date for final guest numbers. If a couple doesn't pay the booking fee in time, the booking is cancelled automatically and the date is released.

Can I use my own cancellation policy and terms?

Yes. Start from a preset, or fine-tune the days and refund amounts yourself:

  • Flexible: full refund 30 or more days before, 50% from 7 days, booking fee refundable.
  • Standard: full refund 90 or more days before, 50% from 30 days, booking fee non-refundable.
  • Strict: full refund 180 or more days before, 25% from 60 days, booking fee non-refundable.

Couples see your policy as a timeline on your listing, and each booking keeps the policy it was requested under. You can also add your own terms and conditions, such as setup times or overtime rates. Couples tick to accept them before they pay the booking fee, and we record which version they accepted.

How do booking requests work?

New requests appear under Requests in Bookings, with the couple's date, guest count, package and notes. For each one you can:

  • Approve: the couple is asked to pay your booking fee within your payment window.
  • Propose changes: send a new total and, if needed, a new date, with a note on what changed.
  • Decline: with an optional reason the couple will see.

A request doesn't hold a date; approving does. Once a booking is approved you can add extras, such as an extra hour, which the couple accepts and pays for in the app.

Can I manage my availability and sync my calendar?

Yes. In Calendar you can block single dates or ranges, repeat a weekday for 12 months, and set how many bookings you can take per day. Couples can't request blocked dates.

Calendar sync works with Google, Apple and Outlook through a private calendar link, with nothing to sign in to. Export your confirmed bookings to your own calendar, and import busy dates from up to 5 other calendars so couples can't request days you're already booked elsewhere.

Can I share my listing outside NearlyWeds?

Yes. Once you're live, your listing has a public page at everafter-app-8s4.pages.dev/vendors/ followed by your listing's short name. Anyone can open it without an account, and search engines such as Google can find it. Tap Share listing on your Home page, then paste the link on your website, Instagram bio, emails or quotes.

To protect you from spam, the public page doesn't show your contact email or phone, and a vendor's page shows only your state, not your address. If you need a break, you can tap Pause listing to hide it from the directory while your existing bookings carry on as normal.

How paying works

From request to paid in full

Every booking follows the same four steps, and its page always shows what you've paid and what's still due.

  1. Step 1: Send a request

Choose your date, guests and a package, or ask for a quote. Nothing is charged, and the date isn't held yet.

  2. Step 2: The business replies

It approves, declines or proposes changes, such as a new price or date. Changes only apply once you accept them.

  3. Step 3: Pay the booking fee

A percentage of the total, set by the business and paid through Stripe before the deadline on your booking. It secures your date.

  4. Step 4: Pay the balance

Due a set number of days before the wedding, and you can pay it any time before then. Every payment gets a receipt.

When do we pay?

Not when you send a request. Payments come in two parts:

  • The booking fee: once the business approves your request, you pay it before the deadline shown on your booking. Businesses usually allow 72 hours. If the deadline passes, the booking is cancelled and the date is released.
  • The remaining balance: due a set number of days before the wedding, shown under Terms on the listing and as Balance due on your booking. You can pay it any time before then.

We email you reminders before the booking fee window closes and before your balance is due.

What is a booking fee?

It's the first payment towards your booking, and it secures your date. Each business sets its own booking fee as a percentage of the total. You'll find it under Terms on the listing, and as an estimate when you send a request.

The booking fee is part of the total price, not an extra charge on top, and it's paid to the business through NearlyWeds. Whether you can get it back depends on the business's cancellation policy: it's non-refundable unless the policy says it's refunded on the same terms.

How do we pay, and is it secure?

Every payment goes through Stripe's secure checkout. Open the booking, tap Pay booking fee or Pay remaining balance, and complete payment on the Stripe page that opens. NearlyWeds never sees or stores your card details.

If the business has its own terms and conditions, you'll be asked to read and accept them before you pay. Every payment gets its own receipt, which you'll find under Receipts on the booking, ready to save, print or share.

Can we get a refund if we cancel?

It depends on the business's cancellation policy, which you can read under Terms on its listing before you book. When you tap Cancel booking, NearlyWeds shows what you've paid, the refund you'll get and the amount kept by the business before you confirm.

  • Refund percentages apply to what you've paid so far, not the full price.
  • The booking fee is non-refundable unless the policy says it's refunded on the same terms.
  • Refunds go back to your original card and usually arrive within 5 to 10 business days.
  • Cancelling a request before you've paid anything costs nothing.
What if the business cancels?

You're refunded everything you've paid, including the booking fee, whatever their cancellation policy says and whenever it happens. The refund goes back to your original card and usually arrives within 5 to 10 business days.

For businesses: the app shows what will be refunded before you tap Confirm cancellation. The refund comes out of your Stripe balance, and NearlyWeds' fee on it is returned to you.

What if a business stops replying or doesn't deliver?

Tell us. Open the booking, tap Report a problem with this booking, choose what went wrong and tap Send to NearlyWeds. It becomes a support request linked to your booking, and we'll reply in the app and by email.

If the business can't deliver, the NearlyWeds team can cancel the booking and refund everything you've paid. Please ask us before disputing a payment with your bank: a chargeback takes weeks, while we can usually sort out a refund much faster.

Can a business change its policy after we've booked?

Not for your booking. The cancellation policy is locked in when you send your request, along with the package you chose and its price, and the business's terms you accept stay on the booking. Later changes to the listing don't affect you.

If the business wants to change your price or date, it has to propose the change, and it only applies once you accept it.

Why should we pay through NearlyWeds rather than directly?

Booking fees and balances paid through your booking are covered by the business's cancellation policy, come with receipts and stay in your booking history. If you pay a business outside NearlyWeds, you lose the protection of its cancellation policy and refunds.

What happens to NearlyWeds' fee when a business gives a refund?

It's returned to the business in proportion. When a refund is made through NearlyWeds, for example when a couple cancels, the business cancels or final guest numbers lower the price, NearlyWeds' fee on the refunded amount goes back to the business, along with a credit note for the amount returned.

Do businesses get an invoice for NearlyWeds' fee?

Yes. NearlyWeds issues the business an invoice for its fee each time a couple pays, and a credit note when a refund returns part of the fee. They're listed under Invoices on the Earnings page, ready to print or save as a PDF.

For your bookkeeping, Earnings also has a Fee statement of what NearlyWeds charged each month, and the Payments page exports every payment as a CSV with the gross amount, NearlyWeds' fee and your net.

Use NearlyWeds in your browser today

Do you have an app?

NearlyWeds works in the web browser on your phone, tablet or computer at everafter-app-8s4.pages.dev. Apps for iPhone and Android are coming soon.

On an iPhone or iPad, open NearlyWeds in Safari, tap Share and choose Add to Home Screen. Open it from your home screen and you can turn on notifications.

How do I create an account?

Tap Create an account, choose Couple, Vendor or Venue under I am a, then enter your email and a password of at least 8 characters. Open the confirmation link we email you and you're in. You sign in with that email and password.

Couples are then asked a few questions about the wedding. Only your first name is required, and you can change everything later in your profile. Create an account.

No confirmation email? Check your spam folder, then tap Resend email. Forgotten your password later? Tap Forgot password? on the sign-in screen and we'll email you a reset link.

Can my partner and I share one account?

One account per couple works best. Add your partner's first name in your profile so businesses know who they're talking to.

What can businesses see about us?

Businesses see what you share with them in messages and booking requests, including your contact details on a request, plus your wedding date, guest numbers and location in conversations, so they can help you plan.

Card payments are handled by Stripe, and NearlyWeds never sees your full card number.

How do I report or block someone?

You can report a business, a message, a person or a review from wherever you see it, for example with Report this business at the bottom of a listing, or by pressing and holding a message and tapping Report message. Reports go to the NearlyWeds team, who review them.

To stop someone messaging you, open the conversation's menu and choose Block. Blocking stops messages but doesn't cancel a booking.

Can I download my data?

Yes, at any time. In your profile, open Account and tap Export data. You'll get a file with your account details, wedding details, bookings, messages and other data linked to your account, in JSON format. Receipts are best saved from each booking's Receipts list.

Can I delete my account and data?

Yes, you can do it yourself. In your profile, open Account, tap Delete account, type DELETE to confirm, then tap Permanently delete my account.

  • Cancel any upcoming bookings first. You can't delete your account while you have upcoming bookings that are still active (or, for a business, payments still pending).
  • Your personal details are removed. Booking and payment records are kept without your name, because we have to keep them for legal reasons.
  • For a business, the listing is taken down, and your Stripe account stays with you to manage directly with Stripe.

Deleting your account can't be undone, so export your data first if you'd like a copy.

How do I get help?

If you have an account, use Help & support in the app: tap New request, choose a topic and tell us what's happening. We'll get back to you as soon as we can, in the app and by email.

You can also email us at support@nearlyweds.com.au. For questions about a specific booking, such as dates, inclusions or quotes, message the business first: they can usually help fastest.
